In response to the Supreme Court’s 6-3 decision to limit LGBTQ+ protections, the JCJ Micah D. Bycel Summer Fellows issued the following joint statement:

We are appalled by the Supreme Court’s ruling in the case of 303 Creative LLC vs. Elenis. As progressive Jews, we interpret Torah and our tradition as evolving to meet modern standards of justice and fairness, and as people of faith, we believe that one’s faith should not be a shield for bigotry.

The court’s decision to limit the rights of LGBTQ+ individuals goes against our belief  that laws and the judicial system should expand rights, not limit them. Instead, we seek an American judicial, legislative and executive branch that moves rights forward for all Americans, especially those who have been unjustly discriminated against in the past.
