California’s primary election is Tuesday, June 2.

In California, eligible workers may be entitled to up to two hours of paid time off to vote if they do not have enough time outside of their work schedule. This policy is designed to ensure that work does not prevent people from participating in elections. Typically, this time is taken at the beginning or end of a shift, and employees are expected to notify their employer in advance.

Taking part in primary elections is especially important, as your vote helps shape who appears on the general election ballot. If you’re working on Election Day, plan ahead by confirming polling hours (7 AM–8 PM), checking your voting location, and coordinating with your employer to ensure you’re able to cast your vote.
