The Jewish Center for Justice welcomes today’s Supreme Court decision in Watson v. Republican National Committee. By protecting access to mail-in voting by continuing to allow ballots to be counted as long as they are postmarked by, and received within, five days of Election day democracy remains intact.

Democracy is strongest when every eligible voter has the opportunity to participate. Mail-in voting serves seniors, working families, people with disabilities, military personnel, and countless others whose ability to vote may otherwise be limited.

Our tradition teaches that communities flourish when all voices are heard. Today’s ruling helps ensure that our democracy remains accessible and representative of the people it serves.

We will continue working to strengthen voting rights and reduce barriers to civic participation because democracy is not measured by how easy it is to exclude people, it is measured by how committed we are to including them.
