The calendar has turned to May 19th and you have officially missed the voter registration deadline.

What should you do? Well, whatever you decide to do, don’t panic. Because while missing the voter registration deadline can feel like the end of the road for your chance to vote, in California, it doesn’t have to be.

Thanks to Same Day Voter Registration, also known as Conditional Voter Registration, eligible voters can still register and cast a ballot within 14 days of an election, including on Election Day itself. It’s designed as a safety net for people who missed the deadline or need to update their registration.

If you’re eligible, you can go in person to a county elections office, polling place, or voting center to register and vote at the same time. Once your registration is verified, your ballot will be counted.

To use Same Day Voter Registration in California, you must be a U.S. citizen, a California resident, and at least 18 years old before or on Election Day. The most important thing to remember: missing the deadline doesn’t automatically mean you’ve missed your chance to participate.

If you’re unsure about your registration status or options, take a few minutes to check. A quick visit to voterstatus.sos.ca.gov can confirm your details. A quick check now can ensure your voice is still heard. Don’t assume you’re out of options and make a plan to vote in the California Primary on Tuesday, June 2nd.
