Sample script:
Hello, my name is [Your Name], and I’m calling from the Jewish Center for Justice to urge [Name of Assembly Member or Senator] to support SB 590.
SB 590 would expand California’s Paid Family Leave program starting July 1, 2027, so individuals can care not only for defined family members but also a ‘designated person’, someone who isn’t legally family but has a familial relationship by blood, marriage, or other close connection.
Many Californian’s are unable to take time off to care for others that cannot care for themselves, and this bill would improve their ability to provide for those important to them. I urge [Name of Assembly Member or Senator] to support SB 590 and help ensure that all Californians are cared for without the possibility of losing their jobs.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
What is JCJ advocating for?
SB 590 would:
- Allow workers to take Paid Family Leave to care for a designated person
- Update legal definitions and claim systems starting July 1, 2027.
- Provide necessary funding and IT infrastructure for smooth implementation.
Why do we support it?
The Jewish Center for Justice believes in taking care of all those around us and bikur cholim (visiting and caring for the sick). Guided by this principle, we stand firmly in support of SB 590, legislation that allows California workers to care for those important to them and expands the amount of people one can care for.
