The killing of Renee Nicole Good at the hands of ICE was not an isolated incident. It is simply one of the few that was caught on camera.
Across this country, we are witnessing a disturbing pattern: people shot in the streets, individuals violently detained, and countless arrests carried out without clear cause. Communities are being terrorized by masked agents confronting people in public spaces and at their homes, often without warrants or proper legal authority.
When government agents operate without transparency, accountability, or respect for due process, they undermine the very foundations of our democracy. These actions do not make us safer. They erode trust, spread fear, place entire communities at risk, and push people into the shadows.
Accountability is not an option in a democracy—it is essential.
Here is what must happen next:
- Congress must immediately open a hearing and formal investigation into ICE’s conduct and use of force.
- Secretary Kristi Noem must be called to testify before Congress to answer for these actions and ensure public accountability.
- Elected officials must publicly condemn warrantless raids and masked enforcement tactics that violate civil liberties and due process.
- Local jurisdictions must reaffirm clear limits on federal enforcement activities that endanger residents and destabilize communities.
We stand with local law enforcement leaders who are speaking out against these tactics, and we reaffirm our unwavering commitment to the rule of law.
Justice cannot exist where power operates without restraint. Protecting democracy requires more than outrage. It requires action, oversight, and the courage to hold authority accountable. We must do so clearly, publicly, and together.
