In response to the Supreme Court’s ruling in United States v. Skrmetti, which allows Tennessee’s ban on gender-affirming care for transgender youth to remain in effect, the Jewish Center for Justice issued the following statement.

The Jewish Center for Justice is outraged by the Supreme Court’s decision to uphold Tennessee’s discriminatory ban on gender-affirming care for transgender youth.

This ruling is a devastating blow to families who are simply trying to care for their children and live their lives without government interference. By allowing this law to stand, the Court has opened the door for more states to pass similar cruel and dehumanizing policies—forcing families to flee their home states and make painful, often unaffordable, decisions just to protect their children.

Upholding this ban does not make our country stronger or safer. It does not protect families. It only pushes us backward, while the rest of the world moves forward in embracing dignity, autonomy, and inclusion.

We stand firmly with transgender youth and their families trapped in these draconian states.

And we call on states that have led the way in protecting transgender rights to double down on their commitments—to expand access, increase funding, and offer refuge for those seeking care.

Our Jewish values compel us to affirm life, uphold dignity, and stand against injustice in every form.

We will not be silent.
