In response to today’s Senate vote to pass a deeply harmful tax bill, approved 51–50 with Vice President JD Vance casting the tie-breaking vote, the Jewish Center For Justice released the following statement:
We strongly condemn today’s Senate vote to pass a deeply harmful tax bill. This legislation would slash Medicaid, stripping millions of vulnerable Americans of essential health care; cut food assistance programs, increasing hunger among children and families; defund Planned Parenthood, leaving many low-income individuals without access to basic medical services; and eliminate clean energy tax credits, undermining the fight against climate change.
This bill is not just fiscally irresponsible — it is morally indefensible.
Our Jewish tradition teaches the imperative of tzedek (justice) and pikuach nefesh (the obligation to preserve life). A budget that disregards the health, dignity, and futures of the most vulnerable among us betrays these core values.
President Trump campaigned on a promise to help working families. Instead, this legislation would deepen inequality, dismantle critical safety nets, and abandon our collective responsibility to future generations.
We urge the House of Representatives to reject this version of the bill and instead advance a budget that reflects compassion, equity, and care for all.
JCJ will continue to raise our voice against policies that prioritize wealth over well-being and to advocate for a just, inclusive economy rooted in moral responsibility.
