We call upon the Senate to pass the American Dream and Promise Act of 2021, also called H.R. 6, which has passed the House of Representatives
The Jewish Center for Justice is mobilizing Jewish communities and immigration reform groups as well as people of faith in support of the American Dream and Promise Act of 2021, which would create a permanent path to citizenship for nearly 11 million people. Further, H.R. 6 would:
- Create a process for undocumented immigrants brought to the U.S. as children — known as “DREAMers” — to earn permanent resident status and eventual citizenship.
- Include a pathway to citizenship for people with temporary protected status and beneficiaries of deferred enforced departure.
- Pause deportation proceedings for Dreamers if they are eligible for “conditional permanent resident” status.
As descendants of an immigrant tradition, we have a moral obligation to welcome the stranger, as is commanded of us on 36 occasions in the Torah. Honoring this legacy, the Jewish Center for Justice believes we must call on our elected leaders to reform our nation’s broken immigration system in a manner that acknowledges rule of law while also recognizing the human dignity of undocumented individuals and providing a pathway to legal citizenship.
