We call upon the Senate to pass the Iron Dome Supplemental Appropriations Act of 2022, also called H.R. 5323, which the House passed on September 23, 2021.
The Jewish Center for Justice is helping to mobilize the Jewish community and other communities of faith in an effort to continue funding the defense system that protects all peoples living in the State of Israel. As a community of justice-seeking Jews, we strongly urge the U.S. to continue to support funding for Israel’s Iron Dome missile defense system. There are few solutions to this seemingly endless conflict, but to restrict Israel’s ability to defend itself would leave the Israeli people vulnerable. If approved, Iron Dome funding would:
- Gives Israel the flexibility to respond to terrorism with alternative means, including using diplomacy instead of force and avoiding ground invasions when Hamas indiscriminately attacks Israeli towns and cities.
- Save countless lives—Israeli and Palestinian alike—and maintain stability in the most volatile region in the world.

The Iron Dome missile defense system represents the guiding philosophy of the Israeli Defense Force—the critical word being “defense.” If Israel had its way, there would be no need for such a system. Unfortunately, however, the Jewish state remains under existential threat. Many of its regional adversaries would seek to destroy it given the opportunity. Just last summer, Hamas fired thousands upon thousands of rockets from Gaza into Israeli population centers. Because of the Iron Dome, the Israeli death count was limited to 26. Imagine the damage that could have been inflicted without this protection. There are few solutions to this seemingly endless conflict, but to restrict Israel’s ability to defend itself would render the Israeli people vulnerable to terrorist attacks. Moreover, it would be a disservice to shared Israeli and American interests in the Middle East. The mere presence of the Iron Dome acts as a deterrent to Israel’s enemies who wish to do it harm. It also gives Israel the flexibility to respond to terrorism with alternative means, including diplomacy instead of force, avoiding ground invasions when Hamas indiscriminately attacks Israeli towns and cities. Simply put, the Iron Dome system saves countless lives—Israeli and Palestinian alike—and maintains stability in the most volatile region in the world. The U.S. must continue to support it.
