Sample script:

Hello, my name is [Your Name] and I’m calling as a member of the Jewish Center for Justice in zip code [your zip code].

I am urging [name of representative] to vote for SB 947, which gives employees who were punished or terminated by Automated Decision Systems (ADS) transparency, and prohibits employers from using solely ADS to terminate employees. The bill allows employees punished by ADS the ability to request a copy from their employer of their data from the past 12 months used by ADS. The employer is then required to provide the copy. SB 947 ensures employees who were punished by emotionless AI systems a chance to know the reason so they can challenge their termination.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

What is JCJ advocating for?

SB 947 would:

  • This bill would prohibit an employer, as defined, from using an ADS to perform certain functions and would limit the purposes for and way in which an ADS may be used.
  • The bill would authorize a worker to request, and require an employer to provide, a copy of the most recent 12 months of the workers own data primarily used by an ADS to make a disciplinary, termination, or deactivation decision.

Why are we advocating for workers rights?

The Jewish Center for Justice believes in the just treatment of workers, as reflected in the teaching that all humans are created b’tzelem Elohim—in the image of God. All humans are entitled to fair treatment. Guided by this principle, we stand firmly in support of SB 947, legislation that regulates the usage of AI in employment decisions and gives workers’ transparency on its use.
