Sample script:
Hello, my name is [Your Name], and I’m calling from the Jewish Center for Justice to urge [Name of Assembly Member or Senator] to support SB 418.
This bill strengthens protections against discrimination in healthcare by ensuring that health insurers and service providers cannot deny or limit care based on someone’s sex assigned at birth, gender identity, or intersex traits. It also prohibits insurers from canceling or restricting coverage simply because of a person’s gender identity or related characteristics.
As a Californian and a person of faith, I believe every individual deserves access to respectful, inclusive, and equitable healthcare. SB 418 aligns with the Jewish value that all people are created b’tzelem Elohim—in the image of God.
I urge [Assembly Member/Senator’s Name] to vote yes on SB 418 and help create a safer, more inclusive California for all. Thank you.
What is JCJ advocating for?
SB 418 would:
- Codify Section 1557 of the ACA into California law—barring discrimination by healthcare providers and insurers based on gender identity.
- Expand access to hormone therapy by requiring insurers to cover up to a 12-month supply and pharmacists to dispense it without unnecessary delay.
Why do we support it?
We’ve seen what happens when access to gender-affirming care is stripped away. We’ve seen the harm and the fear. This bill guarantees protections where the federal government is failing, and it ensures that people can access the medications they need without delay or stigma.
