Sample script:

Hello, my name is [Your Name] and I’m calling as a member of the Jewish Center for Justice in zip code [your zip code].

I am urging [name of representative] to vote for AB 1854, which prohibits any state or local law enforcement from arresting any person for performing or supporting in the activities of a legally protected healthcare activity. The bill allows these safeties to apply to everyone, regardless of the location in which the patient resides. Currently, the law authorizes the Governor to surrender any person in this state charged with committing an act in this state, which results in a crime in the state with executive authority. AB 1854 would expand the scope of the crime of perjury.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

What is JCJ advocating for?

AB 1854 would:

  • Expand safe-haven protections for patients, their families, and medical professionals.
  • Shield providers and patients from harassment, violence, and hostile out-of-state actors

Why are we advocating for transgender and reproductive healthcare?

The Jewish Center for Justice believes in human dignity, or Kavod Habriyot. Guided by this principle, we strongly believe in AB 1854, legislation that protects individuals from being arrested for receiving crucial healthcare, or for performing in a legally protected health care activity in California, regardless of where the patient resides.
