In response to President Donald Trump sending the National Guard to Los Angeles in response to protests to protect immigrant communities, the Jewish Center for Justice issued the following statement:

The Jewish Center for Justice proudly calls Los Angeles home—a city defined by its diversity, connection, and care.

This weekend, that spirit was shaken by coordinated ICE raids that spread fear and uncertainty among immigrant communities across our city. These cruel actions were met with peaceful protest, not disorder. Local law enforcement maintained calm. There was no call for federal intervention.

Yet President Trump chose to deploy the National Guard—not to ensure safety, but to provoke fear and intimidate vulnerable communities.

Let us be clear: he failed to send the National Guard when our Capitol was under siege on January 6. But he sends it now, in response to peaceful protest and calls for dignity from immigrant families and their allies.

This is not leadership. It is fearmongering.

And all the while, there has been no meaningful immigration reform. No dialogue. No compassion. Only cruelty.

Los Angeles—and America—deserve better. We will not stop demanding justice, humanity, and moral leadership.
