In response to the Supreme Court’s ruling in Medina v. Planned Parenthood South Atlantic which allows states to slash Medicaid funding for Planned Parenthood and bars individuals from suing to enforce their choice of provider, the Jewish Center for Justice issued the following statement:
This ruling undermines access to essential health services—such as contraception, cancer screenings, and sexual health care—for millions of low-income patients. By enabling states to deny funding for providers they dislike, the Court opens the door for politically motivated attacks on reproductive care and further strains health equity.
We stand firmly with Planned Parenthood, medical professionals, and the communities who rely on these vital services. Cutting off Medicaid support doesn’t enhance healthcare—it harms it. We urge Congress and state legislatures to protect access to comprehensive care and ensure no one is denied essential services based on politics or ideology.
Jewish teachings compel us to advocate for the health and dignity of all people. Today’s ruling limits patients’ abilities to seek care in a decision which will disproportionately harm women, members of the LGBTQ+ community, and other vulnerable communities. The Jewish Center for Justice remains committed to advocating for reproductive justice and healthcare access for all.
