Today, the Jewish Center for Justice Board of Directors issued the following joint statement following the announcement that Jode Biden and Kamala Harris won the 2020 presidential election:
“The Board of the Jewish Center for Justice officially congratulates President-Elect Joe Biden and Vice President-Elect Kamala Harris on an historic victory, one which we hope will restore the soul of our country. We offer a special commendation to Kamala Harris, who is the first woman, the first person of color, and the first person of Southeast Asian descent to be elected to the office of the Vice President.
“We have been inspired by their campaign and motivated by messages of hope and empathy. We lend our support and prayers through the transition into these new roles of leadership. As the President-Elect echoed the words of Ecclesiastes in his acceptance speech on Saturday night, now is the time to come together, heal as a nation, and build a sense of economic safety and security for so many of our fellow citizens who are struggling to find their next meal.
“We look forward to working with the new administration on our shared agenda of economic justice, COVID relief, and a substantive plan to control this horrific virus. Together, we will listen and learn from communities which have been left behind and we will strive as one nation to address racial justice. From environmental justice to LGBTQ equality, immigration reform to gun violence prevention, we know the list of issues is long and the days are short, but we will seek a brighter tomorrow. Congratulations, and thank you for being an inspiration to our children and conveying a message of compassion, love, and healing.”
