Over the past several months, our legislative team — powered by the dedication and research of our summer fellows — has tracked several key justice-focused bills in California. As the legislative session nears its close, several of these bills face final floor votes this week before moving to Governor Newsom’s desk for signature. Legally protected health care activity / medical privacy & CURES
Status: Ordered to 3rd reading (Sep 5, 2025).
What it does: Strengthens protections (incl. against out-of-state subpoenas) and sets penalties for improper CURES access.

What it does: Clarifies coverage and nondiscrimination for prescribed hormone therapy.

AB 715
Educational equity: discrimination: antisemitism prevention.
Status: Actively making its way through committees
What it does: strengthens anti-discrimination protections in California’s K–12 schools by requiring timely responses to incidents of antisemitism, expanding accountability to include school board members and contractors, and establishing a statewide Antisemitism Coordinator to lead prevention and education efforts.
